.If you’re reading this, you probably already know that Daphne Latimore is the founder and managing partner of DB Latimore Professional Services Group. This month, we’re celebrating our fearless, female founder as she celebrates a milestone birthday on this very day.
Her Accomplishments
Daphne has been married for 38 years, raised 2 children, and now has 4 grandchildren. Over the last 40 years, she has also built and maintained an exemplary career as an HR professional and executive coach through it all.
Born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, Daphne received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bethune-Cookman College, also in Daytona Beach. She received a Master’s in Public Administration from Troy State University, which is based in Troy, Alabama, though she graduated from the European Division in Germany.
She also was a part of various advanced leadership training through corporate university programs including Oxford University, the University of Michigan, and the University of New Hampshire.
As a Certified Executive Coach, Daphne received her comprehensive training through the Center for Creative Leadership, and certification credentials from the Center for Executive Coaching.
Her Journey
Daphne’s professional journey took some unexpected turns—but in the most fortunate of ways.
“My original plan was to be a psychiatrist,” she admits. “However, once I was the first student from our college to be accepted into the Governor’s Internship Program doing HR at the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs, and later working in the workforce development field, the pivot to human resources made perfect sense.”
Later, Daphne was gainfully employed at BAE Systems for 14 years—this is where her journey gets really interesting! After some time, she was promoted to Vice President of Human Resources. It was then that she started planning her exit strategy. Say what?!
Her Secret
“I was honored to have been offered—and happily accepted—the position. However, one of my mentors soon highlighted an interesting fact: ‘At this level, you will serve only at the discretion of the president.’ That really resonated with me. I had always planned to exit the traditional work environment at the age of 50 anyway. So, I knew this role would be my last,” Daphne said.
Daphne’s mentors advised her to take advantage of her eligibility in the organization’s Deferred Compensation Plan. “I was able to begin investing so that I’d have the income to support myself once I shifted into an entrepreneurial role. I also took the time to enhance my credentials to fully operate in my industry. Thanks to the guidance of my mentors, I was able to build the foundation of DB Latimore Professional Services Group and exit my full-time VP-level position to launch my firm.”
Her Business
Upon leaving BAE Systems in 2011, Daphne founded DB Latimore Professional Services Group. With decades of strategic and operational experience in both the private and public sectors, she is now the managing partner at her very own successful boutique firm. Daphne specializes in talent management, professional coaching services, and workforce development.
As a Human Capital Strategist, Daphne operates from the firm belief that P.E.O.P.L.E® are an organization’s greatest asset. Today, we celebrate Daphne on her 60th birthday. She has accomplished so much, doing what she loves, navigating her own firm and other organizations through the pandemic, and empowering women and men in their personal and professional lives through and through.
